last day of class

Posted in babbles, school by emmiline on April 16, 2010

Had my last day of class in NTU this morning.
The feeling is oddly strange, cause I actually feel overwhelmed somehow, that 4 years of school has pretty much ended.
Only one Korean Level 1 paper to tackle and it’s Sayounara NTU.
I’d have to go back for convocation ceremony of course, but that would be at the end of July.
During the last lecture and last presentation, Whywhy (a prof) was telling us how some reputable journals actually published ‘rubbish’ papers because the findings and results contradicted the title, or something like that.
That’s how my last lecture in NTU ended lol.
After the 27th, I am “officially a bummer”, as my dear brother put it ever so nicely -_-

Had my hair chopped off yesterday and I’m kinda resisting the habit of sweeping my hair aside because, I simply do not have the hair length to do so now.
Kinda sprouting a mushroom hairdo now, but no regrets there.
I need to love my hair more haha.
Just hope that some people wouldn’t mind my hairdo if I’m selected :D

Please let the turmoil in Bangkok die down soon.
I really really want to go there for some intense retail therapy!!!!

19 more days

Posted in babbles, family, school by emmiline on April 8, 2010

Can’t believe there’s only 19 more days to the end of my school life in NTU.
4 years of undergraduate life just flew past like that.
The worse thing is, I still have not received any calls from the companies that I have applied to.
Although I can only start work around mid June, it’d be nice to at least secure a job before graduation, before the final paper.
Oh wells. I need to be more sincere in my prayers.

Thoughts about pursuing a Master’s degree have been on my mind for a while.
To excel in my field, I’d most likely need a PhD, unless I resign to a fate of just working for the sake of working.
My dad thinks that girls shouldn’t study too much.
My grandmother (dad’s mom) also thinks that way too.
Girls should just graduate, get a job, get married and have kids.
Dad also said that should I go for Master’s now, by the time I graduate, all the money (?) would have gone into other people’s pockets.
He’s worried about being able to finance my brother’s tuition fees if he decides to go to Australia to study.
I know I should do my part by working and help with the finance, but I just can’t help but feel that I should pursue for more.

Oh Lord, please guide me to the correct path…

Hokkaido was fun (:
too fun to the point that both of us overspent ):
Hokkaido was really cold too.
i think the coldest we experienced naturally was -16°C?
and the coldest artificial weather was supposedly -41°C.
why artificial?
cos they built a place to let people experience the lowest temperatue ever recorded in Asahikawa, in the year 1902.
brrrr~

we’ve arrived!! (:

Hina Matsuri aka Girl’s Day.

these little angels are called Clionidae (流氷の天使).
i really wanted to buy one home but they only live in really cold waters ):

Sounkyo Ice Fall Festival.

the fairyland look alike factory that produces the famous Shiroi Koibito cookies.

baby and i bought marimo back to grow as pets :D
taking good care of it is said to make one’s wishes come true hee
let’s hope so (:

fujitsu is back!

Posted in babbles, family by emmiline on February 1, 2010

for the past 2 months or so, i have been surviving on baby’s Samsung N310 mini netbook.
because my fujitsu of 3 years was on the verge of breaking down in the midst of my fyp report writing.
my dad, a who is a firm believer of the phrase “anything that is repairable, is still usable”, sent the fujitsu to an IT repair shop near granny’s place.
he was very pleased when the repair guy was able to get rid of the virus he accidentally downloaded on his laptop plus installed anti-virus software for just $100.
i, on the other hand, is quite skeptical.
i believe everything has a life-span; if it’s time, it’s time.
my brother’s acer laptop which he bought during his poly days (= ~3-4 years) was sent to the same shop and the guy charged my dad $200.
initially, the laptop was working and the bro was happy that he finally didn’t have to use my lousy desktop on my ultra messy table in my super smelly room.
the next day, it crashed and was sent back for repair.
the same thing happened again and the verdict was: sorry, it’s unrepairable and we will refund you.
pair of the refund was used to repair the fujitsu ($40) but it’s still not fixed entirely.
i wrote down all the errors and spoilage i could think of and gave it to the guy together with the fujitsu; in the end, he only reformatted it and installed a free anti-virus software, spongebob squarepants game, ballance, autorun eater, additional desktop themes, etc etc.
he told my dad it’s fixed, BUT:
- my fan is still spoilt; i can still hear the strange fan turning sounds
- my wi-fi is still spoilt; it can’t connect for nuts!
):
i should just start saving more for a new desktop/laptop..

and so, fyp is over

the dreaded FYP poster presentation was held last thursday, 21/1, at the SPMS atrium near the MAS office
the night before, i had a chance to ‘rehearse’ with my labmates and got shot down many times by the invincible Rongli ):
that made me even more nervous to the point that i wrote an entire speech until 3am, had a restless night tossing and turning, topping it off with a nightmare which i couldn’t remember what it was about :S
went to lab 1 hour earlier the next day to borrow a formal top from Wenlin (cause i didn’t have any in hall!!) and continued to memorize whatever i could.
then 1130h came.

what i thought would be the longest 3 hours of my life was surprisingly short because of the constant presentation and explanation i had to do.
2/3 of my evaluators were nice too (: as for the last one, i didn’t even know he was one! thought he looked very Chinese and had a strange non-Chinese accent, but it turns out he’s a Japanese.
i guess i was lucky (:

received another email from Prof Yamane that there’d be an interview session with the CBC 491 panel for selected students tmr, 27/1.
until now, i still have not received any ‘invitation’ so i hope that means im not selected *crosses fingers*
good luck to those who are selected!!

now that im ‘free’ for the time being, i have been watching shows like crazy.
movies, dramas, series, variety shows..
seriously need to get my FO and WGM dose from Ben; if not, i’d be super outdated in the kpop world lol

being ‘free’ also means that i have to start spamming companies with my resume, which needs serious polishing :P
still not too sure what path i’d take but 船到桥头自然直 right? :D

this is random, but im so happy that i managed to swim today (:
haven’t been able to exercise much aka jog/run due to my back injury, which till now i still don’t know what caused it. grrrr.
hope i can swim at least once a week!
those fats really need to disappear!! >.<

and the winner is…
